about
In 1974 H.I.M Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia was overthrown in a coup d'etat. The country was ruled by a Marxist military government for the ensuing 17 years.
As a lad during this period, living with my family in Addis Ababa, I recall the mood of uncertainty, fear, and dread that came with the revolution. This is a song about that time.
lyrics
IMPERIAL DREAD
One, nine, seven, four
It was a hard year for His Majesty
Calendar of Gregor
No Imperial Bodyguard
To every man, to every woman
To every Dread and every baldhead human
Fire
With darkness falling, they go undercover
To end the reign of kings
One, nine, seven, four
I can still remember the sound
(1974) Black Saturday
No Imperial Bodyguard
No imperial body
Imperial Dread
Shots rang out in Empire
One, nine, seven, four
Shots rang out In Empire
1974, Crucial time inna Palace
